Coconut Plantations

We made it our personal mission to locate the best plantations on earth. Our partner plantations are committed to traditional farming, and palm fronds are the only fertilizer used. The certified and regularly inspected plantations have provided the farmers with the highest quality coconuts for over 20 years. With great ambition and professional dedication, the coconut farmers, oil millers and pressers ensure the high quality of the products. We want to support the plantations and the local manufacturers with fair and long-term contracts.

Where does KULAU Organic Coconut Water come from?

The current harvest of KULAU Coconut Water is from the natural paradise of Sri Lanka. The organic coconuts ripen for seven months before they are gently processed into coconut water. Intense sunlight, regular warm tropical rainfall, and a fertile soil rich in minerals guarantee the sustained growth of especially healthy coconut palms.

The elderflower for KULAU RELAX and the aronia berries (chokeberries) for KULAU RENEW come from central Germany. The pomegranates for KULAU RENEW are grown in Turkey. Of course, all products are certified organic.

Where does KULAU Organic Coconut Sugar come from?

Our coconut sugar comes from the Indonesian island of Java. Coconut sugar has been produced traditionally from the blossoms of coconuts for centuries and processed into this especially finely ground sugar.

Where does KULAU Coconut Oil come from?

KULAU Coconut Oil comes from the Philippines. The coconuts are harvested by hand after ripening for twelve to fourteen months and are processed into coconut oil right after the harvest.

Where do the young green coconuts come from?

The young coconuts come from Costa Rica. Although the tropical country is only a little bit larger than the German state of Lower Saxony, about a quarter of the the country is a protected onservation area. The coconuts can grow freely in this natural paradise. Currently, they are not yet certified organic, but we're working on changing that.

…and this is what it looks like on one of our mixed-cultivation plantations:

The KULAU Promise

Our organic coconuts are guaranteed to have grown and ripened naturally:

  • in mixed cultivation with a number of other tropical plants
  • without artifical fertilizers
  • without toxins
  • without GM

Coconut Cultivation and Processing

When the coconuts have reached optimal ripeness, each coconut is hand-picked using a special coconut picker and processed immediately. Some of our processing sites have with most up-to-date techniques for gently processing the products at their disposal. Coconut sugar is still processed in a traditional manner. Read more about this on our KULAU Coconut Blog. The plantations and production facilities are regularly inspected and certified.

KULAU products are transported from Thailand to Germany by ship. That's much more eco-friendly than importation by plane.

KULAU makes sure trees are planted in regular intervals to reduce CO2 emissions and protect the climate. One hectar of woodland can bind approximately 3.8 tons of carbon (equivalent to about 13.82 tons of CO2).
That number may vary according to soil conditions, water supply, vegetation, etc. Source: iplantatree

Until we have a mixed-cultivation plantation of our own, we support projects by commissioning tree plantings (e.g. "Mein Blog ist CO2-neutral" or " I plant a tree").

The selection of suppliers and material has a great impact on a company's environmental fingerprint. We are aware of this responsibility and support our suppliers actively with the use of eco-friendly technology and materials.
